B I am currently set to 64K

Mine is set to: MaxFileCache=524288

That was the maximum recommended for WinMe.

Default Memory Upgrade Performance Question/ Thanks for the good input

Hello, BobT!

In the meantime I reduced the setting to 384000. I was getting an
occassional video problem (screen would go completely blank when I visited
some websites). I had also installed a new AGP card (that boasts 128meg
onboard) up from 64meg on my old card. Research indicated that sometimes
setting the vcache too high can lead to problems especially if the system
has AGP. Therefore, I reduced vcache to 50% of my total ram. So far so
good.

Bob,
without realizing WME limitations, I went to 2GB of dual channel.
The only setting I have had to use is setting under the msconfig, advanced,
limiting to 999M. Of note, my system was still faster with the 2 sticks than
one because that enabled the dual channel capabilities. Pretty sure that I
had to make that setting before installing both sticks to get it to boot
into windows. Some sites had advice for a hex setting of maxphyspage that
actually worked out to about 1.4G and no problems. But these settings are
ignored if you try to boot safe mode and with both sticks it will not go
into safe mode. I have to pull one so I actually have 1G.
It seems that some of it is MOBO dependant and video card.
As near as I can tell, you never posted back what your ultimate intent of
the machine is. Asked by someone else I think. Nor details of what you have.
See my post 3/16 0932. Also PS size is important if moving to a faster
processor.
Being a 1GHz only hints at the time of build and that it may have been pre
RDRAM which Intel ventured into.
