Defrag Keeps Running.

I have Windows ME, and defrag every other day. Last night when I started to
defrag it runs continioulsy "Checking Files and Folders"; however, no
progress. I went to the Microsoft Knowledge base, came up empty handed. Does
anyone have any ideas.

Did you run Scandisk first?? Try running both of them in Safe Mode
(reboot and tap F8 till you get the safe mode screen)

There is no need to defrag every other day!! - all you do is overstress the
HD (and waste electricity and time)!!
Once a week at most - and personally I have never defragged more than once a
month (unless I have a specific reason to).

Heather is correct - it would seem that your system is repeatedly attempting
to restart the process due to drive writes, and that you have switched off
the warning. You may need to determine what program in blocking the process.
