Cancel a Win98SE reinstall on n IBM Thinkpad ??
A friend of mine - not computer literate :-( was having problems booting up
her IBM Thinkpad and not knowing better decided the best way to fix it would be to run the recovery CD that came with it. Now it's halfway through the reinstallation of Win98SE and prompting for regional settings, name etc. Anyone got any ideas if it's possible to interrupt the recovery process leaving the existing Windows setup, documents, etc intact ?? Thanks Dave H. |

Why doesn't she just enter the details?
The Regional settings are just choosing the time zone, time, etc. The name she should know. If she has to enter the 98 Product key, it is on the CD, the computer itself, or is in its documentation. But those details are early in the process, so she should just be able to abort the process without doing any additional harm by using the Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination to reboot. But the boot problem won't go away by doing that. It might go away if she goes through the process. If she used the "restore" disks, chances are it has already repartitioned
and reformatted the hard drive. If so, there is no going back. Sorry. "Dave H" flameboy4{at}hotmail{dot}com wrote in message ...
