One last question:
I'm doing fine with Trend. But what if I upgrade to XP? I realize that I
could buy a new computer for not much more but I'm kind of attached to this
one. I'm considering spending the $80 to upgrade to XP, then trying the
Mcafee that I've already paid for before paying for Trend. Do you have
experience with this? Is the McAfee likely to perform better under XP on the
same computer? Thanks again.

I unloaded McAfee Virusscan and my speed returned to normal. I reloaded it
and it was somewhat slower but now it is back to as slow as when I first
reported it.

Since this is my backup computer, I've decided to accept the slower speed
until my McAfee subscription ends, then either upgrade to XP or at least
change to Norton Antivirus.

You are using Win98 yes? You need to find your network connection icon,
right click, select properties, and see if you can turn on an option to
view
the connection in the systray; its been so long since I used Win98 I
can't
remember for sure.. I will have access to a Win98 PC so will have a
look.

Having used Win98SE many years and never noticed this "network connection
icon", I too am intrigued. Is this the Network Neighborhood icon? If so,
displaying properties shows no such option. I'd be most grateful if you could
be more specific?

I would not touch McAfee with the proverbial barge pole... run, screaming,
in the other direction.

Mind if I clarify a bit?

Network Neighborhood in 98 is My Network Places in XP. Not what Sandi is
talking about. What Sandi is talking about is the equivalent of the Network
applet in Control Panel, and no, there's no option to show an icon in the
Tray. That option would be a specific property of the network adapter, and
there is none such available. Such functionality is only available for
Dial-Up adapters.

Has anybody found any fix for this Slow internet since 1/5/06 problem. I have
read all the posts here but I do not get the feeling that there is a fix. I
too have noticed slow performance since I down loaded a windows update about
that time. Mine loads to a white page, goes to about 98% and then seems to
stop there for about 1-2 minutes. I am using Win 98second edition, Walmart
dial up ( really AOL) which uses Netscape, IE 6 as secondary browser, AVG
free virus, adware, spybot, etc. Nothing comes up. Should I delete IE6 if
possible, and reinstall or or can I?Also, sometimes I get a white page and at
the bottom it says "Done".
