Default Problem installing Belkin wireless card with Windows 98

Hello,

I recently installed a Belkin wireless card into my desktop, followed by
software that came with the package. But while installing the cd, I was
prompted to insert my Windows 98SE cd. I have Windows 98 - '91--97 edition,
on my harddrive. I obtained an orignal Windows 98SE cd as requested and
inserted it. But unfortunately, the software was not able to pull down the
"service" file (that is the word used that it requested) it needed. So then
Belkin technical support directed me to my hard drive, and gave me a path of
c:\windows\system\cabs, to find the file, but they couldn't seem to give me
the name of the file needed. And the Belkin software again did not located
the needed file.

So they directed me to Microsoft for more help. Any ideas would be
appreciated to help me get this piece of equipment up and operating. Right
now I have no internet access from home at all..

Thank you!!

try and point it at c:\windows and c:\windows\system

it is probably looking to update network drivers...if you had a NIC
installed before , the files may already be in your system

When asked for a file on the 98CD use the browse button to navigate to
CDdrive:\Win98 and select it as where to look for the file.
Another place to look for the Win98 setup files is C:\Windows\Options\Cabs

If you know the name of the file you can use Start Find Folders/files:
In named type: *.cab
In containing text type: the name of the file minus the extension
In look in: point it to the HD or CD

If it can't find a file that is in the 98 setup cab files, the cause may be that
you do not have a compression/decompression application such as WinZip which is
needed to see the files in compressed archives.

Also if you know the name of the file you can look here to see which Cab it's
located in.

Brian, Haggis,

Thank you for your response. I do have WinZip installed. I don't know the
name of the cab file. But I will try a search. I will also try the other
paths you mentioned.

Thanks again!
