Mike,
You cannot clean off the drive and start over because that is not where the BIOS password is stored. The Zip100 is probably a 100 mb Zip drive and not the Presario model number which I think will be a four digit number like 4774. Unless you know the BIOS password, you have to clear the BIOS with either a jumper switch on the motherboard or by removing the battery. Post the model number back here if you can find it. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "mike" wrote in message ... hi ron its mike the computer is a compaq presario zip100 with windows 98, ive looked everywhere for this battery, can not find it nowhere. one person said it might be out of memorey?? is there any way of clearing every thing and starting over?? orr am i just stuck. seems to me there has to be a way to get on this com?? thanks if there any thing else you know that might help please let me know. Leave the battery out over night and see if that clears the password. I
looked up 1155 and while there is a Presario by that model number, it comes with Win XP so I doubt that is the correct number for your machine. Do you have any of the documentation that came with the computer--bill of sale, user guide, etc., that might give the model number? If you can get the model number, you can use Google to try to locate info on clearing the BIOS password on that specific model. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "mike" wrote in message ... ron the computer is a compaq presario zip100 model is f-1155v/r9 serial is 1x96cly8p3ga do you have any other ideas removeing battery didnt change nothing. I don't know why the battery removal did not work. Sometimes the BIOS
password is cleared with jumper pins on the motherboard; however, it seems like the battery removal would have cleared the password anyway. I have no way of easily searching for this kind of info without having a model number. There are BIOS password crackers available on the internet--use Google.com to search for them. I don't know what kind of BIOS your machine has so you might have to try more than one program. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "mike" wrote in message ... hi have look the whole computer over all i can find on it is the computeris a compaq presario it has a zip 100 0n tha front tha front door where the model might have been my daughter threw out. the serial number is 1x96cly8p3ga its an older model. i tried with the battery over night does the same thing.??? any other ideas. regaurds mike "Echy" wrote: Ron Badour wrote: Leave the battery out over night and see if that clears the password. news hi have put question or required help for computer lockout but it seems everywhere i turn im comeing up emty when i turn on the computer the compaq sign shows up then about 30 secounds later a 3x5 white box apears that says power- on password with a emblem of a key. nothing i do changes this other then shutting off the computer, then i turn it on same thing. can you help. it is a compaq presario zip100 As explained in other replies: remove the battery from the motherboard. Than pull the powerplug. Study the motherboard carefully to find a jumper which has to do with 'reset cmos'. If there is a jumper, remember it's position. If there is no jumper, skip the next jumperthings, keep the pc 10 minutes without battery and disconnected from power. If the jumper is on 2 pins out of 3, place the jumper on the other 2 pins and keep it there for 10 minutes. Than remove the jumper for 10 minutes. When done, place the jumper back in its original position. Insert the battery, recconnect the power. If the problem still exists, please try to visit newsgroup alt.sys.pc-clone.compaq. Grtz, TR |
