When do you get the error....what are you doing, what programs are running?

See if the links here help you resolve it:

I'm trying to run an app on Win98SE after reloading windows in the process
of getting rid of a nest (87) of viruses. Now that MS is not supporting W98
how does one get the upgrades?

Have you had any luck with the articles in the link I gave you? It may be important
to note what the particular application is that you are trying to run.

If you are referring to the critical updates for Win98, they are still available
through Windows Update and will probably remain available for at least a year,
possibly longer. You can also download critical updates for later use, through the
Windows Update catalog.

I couldn't relate to any of the articles in the links. The app I was trying
to run - Telechart from Worden Bros. - wasn't in any of the articles. I
called their tech suppt and got excellent help - the TS walked me through
saving all my customized lists and screens and it seems I'm back in good
shape. Thanks for your help.
I've got more questions but I'll post them under different subjects.
