Default drive letter missing

Win98SE. Been having problems where the system freezes and then only the
reset button will reboot. Ctrl+Alt+Del not responsive. Running 2 drives, C:\
and D:\. C:\ has a 5g partition which, I think; was recognized as E:\. After
the last freeze/reboot, right-clicking My Computer; my second hard drive is
not listed on the left side of explorer. My partition is now listed as D:\
with 2 separate folders of Program Files on it. One is from D:\ and the
other from the original E:\. Now that everyone is completely confused, how
do I get my OS to recognize my second hard drive (D:\) again? Thank you,
Steve T.

I noticed that my Maxtor was no longer being recognized in the boot-up
process and went into BIOS and changed the setting to AUTO on the Primary
Slave. It was at NONE. Now all is well (fingers still crossed). Thanks,
Steve T.
