Default Error Message "This program has performed an illegal operation ..."

My Problem is : When (Double) clicking on Internet
Explorer or
My Computer icon to open them , instead of opening it an
error
message is showing which states :"This program has
performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor."
But I have found a way to open IE. It is now opening by
Right clicking on the IE icon and then selecting and
clicking
the option "open".I have Internet Explorer version 5.0
and Windows 98 SE as OS in my PC.
Plz help to sort out this so that I can open IE by normal
way (just double clicking the icon) and operate it without
having any error message.
Note :In "System Properties" dialog box,the item "Display
Adapters"
(which is Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller in my case)
in General tab, Device status is showing "This device is
working properly" though in Driver Tab ... Driver File
Details,
source Driver files showing C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\181XDW9X.DRV
but physically there is no existence of this file in my
Hard drive at that path.
