Hangs on sut down
I have Windows 98 se. About one time out of three shut down will hang forever
at "Windows is Shutting Down". I have read that a frequent cause is Apmbatt.sys not responding. I don't know what this is, nor how to deal with it. Pulling the plug is not all that difficult, but am I apt to damage my computer or files if I continue to do this on an ongoing basis? I understand there is a Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement that was issued in Nov. of '99. I got my computer in March of 2000 so maybe my Windows package did not have this Supplement included. Should I just go ahead and try to download and install it? Thanks a lot for help. Alton |

If I'm right you are talking about the apmbatt.sys. The following Microsoft
link discusses this particular problem. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=306889 ************************************************** ****** The advice given earlier about general shutdown problems are handy links to keep. http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm http://aumha.org/win4/a/shtdwnse.htm Best of Luck, Robb N. Many thanks to Don, Dennis, Ron, and Robb for your helpful replies. For two
weeks after I posted I was getting a notice that the site was temporarily out of service. This morning I found a new way to get into it. Sorry for the delay in expressing my appreciation. Computer is working better. Alton "Robb N. Cravens" wrote: If I'm right you are talking about the apmbatt.sys.
