Default Compaq won't STAY on after it loads

I turn my computer on, it will fully load and then, it
will turn itself off. Immediately, it turns itself on,
loads fully, then turn off. It will do this several times
and then it will stay on. It will do this for so long,
sometimes, I am afraid it won't stay loaded.
I can NOT put in a CD to play, it will start doing the
turning off and on thing.
I have no virus. I used my "Fix It Utilities" program
(very old but it works) and also went to trendmicro.com to
get a free virus scan. I tried doing my hibernate but it
doesn't work either. I leave my computer on all the time
and finally figured to just turn off my monitor. This
computer is 4 and 1/2 years old.
I bought a new key board, thinking some keys were stuck or
something, but it is not that. Everything is hooked up.
I have De-fragged, cleaned out files.
I had "Incredible" as my e-mail application, I deleted it
the program. I went to the add and remove in the control
panel and deleted it. I even removed everything from the
start up column that I don't use or had deleted from the
add/remove in the control panel, but was still listed.
Once it is loaded and stays loaded, I can check my e-mails
and surf the net, visit the bank, etc.
I don't know why it is doing this all of a sudden.
I really need help. Thank you
Debbie

You need to determine/prove whether or not its a heat/hardware issue rather
than a WinMe issue. Boot using your Windows Startup (floppy) Disk and let it
continue to the DOS Help page. Leave it running for a reasonable period of
time and see if it re-boots.

If so, then it is not a WinMe problem but rather an issue with your PC.

Could be clogged or sticking fan(s) etc., etc.

Good luck

Mart
