SCSI HDD problems with Win98SE
Hi All,
I'm having lots of trouble with Win98SE running on an old Dell PowerEdge server (PentiumII-233/128MB RAM/18GB SCSI 10K RPM HDD). Even when I was installing, there were times when Win98 setup rebooted and I got a "no boot disk" message afterwards. I could get past those booting from diskette and doing a "FDISK /MBR", but it made me wonder what kind of problems I'd run into later on... After it was installed, I would shut it down and when I powered it on again I'd get the "no boot disk" message. One time, the FAT was wrecked, I ran ScanDisk and after it finished I was left with a disk full of ".CHK" files. Could it be a 10K RPM Ultra3 SCSI disk is too fast for Win98? It could be a hardware problem (and believe me, if I still had the Dell diagnostics disk, I would've used it by now), but this computer was running Windows NT 4.0 with no problems until the day I tried to install Win98. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Leo. MAXTOR, C.A. |

SCSI HDD problems with Win98SE
No boot disk is referring to lack of floppy to boot from.
Otherwise would indicate no operating system found if no boot files were located on the hard disk's active primary partition. You're attempting to work with the former FAT16 partition of NT is sounds like. Remove this primary, active partition and create another using FAT32. Be sure you're accessing the correct hard drive before proceeding IF you have more than one hard drive. "Maxtor, C.A." wrote in message ... SCSI HDD problems with Win98SE
Thanks Dave,
There's only one hard disk, and the partition is FAT32. NT was wiped out, there's just one partition with 98 on it. The MBR and the FAT become corrupted, but I'm clueless as to why that happens. I was hoping someone would point me in the right direction. "Lil' Dave" escribió en el mensaje ... No boot disk is referring to lack of floppy to boot from.
