Default Problems with Drivers.

Co-worker bought new Dell and gave me old Dell L700cx with manuals, CDs,
etc. There was no anti-virus program and the computer had many viruses on
it. I have replaced the battery (I did not notice anything drastic changing
after replacing the battery- I did take digital pictures of screens so I
could reset settings). I formatted the HD and reinstalled Windows ME from
the Dell cds. My problem now is trying to load the drivers. I have been to
the Dell site and download Intel chipset drivers, video drivers, etc. but I
still cannot figure out how to get rid of the errors in the Device Manager.
I cannot install any PCI drivers for modem because in the display screen the
color settings are only 16 and I cannot change that or the screen size and I
receive errors that the color settings need to be at least 256.

You can see my errors at
http://bragart.org/error.htm

I would deeply appreciate any suggestions.

I have entered the service tag. ChrisM has even helped me with locating the
Intel chipset drivers. Please tell me what do I need to do to correct or
allow me to change the color to 256 or more. It that related to the
graphics card? It seems that I have to get that corrected before I can do
anything about the other drivers.

Thank you,
Mike

Susan,

You appear to be missing three drivers, those for your graphics card,
network card (NIC) and your modem. All three of these drivers should be
available from the Dell support site but you will need to enter the
service tag number for your PC.

Susan, once you have installed the Intel chipset drivers, install the
appropriate, updated video drivers. Once done successfully, you will be
able to change the video resolution and color depth in the Control Panel /
Display applet, as desired. The Advanced features will be available, also.

Then move on to installing the modem and NIC drivers.

You may wish to create SR checkpoints, and scanreg backups, after each
successful step.

Okay I have tried to do that and evidently I have messed up somehow. What
is the best way to start over. Is it to remove the devices? Is there a way
to tell that I have the right chipset drivers installed or can that be
causing my problems on down the line when I try to install the video
drivers?

Thanks for any information.

I am not having any luck!

I am not clear on the Intel instructions for part 3. I don't understand the
reference to Display Properties at a.
If it is referring to the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) Properties
under Display, Settings, Advanced, it already shows Standard PCI Graphics
Adapter (
VGA)

The instructions at 2. did not change anything because tab has "Plug and
Play Monitor" so I did not have to change anything.

The only thing that I have noticed is that the graphics download from Dell
is release 4.12.01.2759 where the Device Manage picture refers to
4.12.01.2604.

I do not know what to do now.
Should I shoot it?
