Default What is a OTF file?

I downloaded a batch of fonts that were in ZIP files. Out of about 40
files, three of them did not have a TTF file inside the Zip, but instead
had OTF files. What the hell is a OTF file? They wont open in
Windows98se.

Market28,

What the hell is a OTF file?

Google for "file extension otf". You can even use their "I'm feeling lucky"
button (the whole first page of results is plastered with the answer).

Rudy Wieser

Shows what an idiot you are.....

There is no browser that works on Win98 anymore. I use usenet and
email only. Even if there was a browser that worked with 98, I have no
desire to use the web.

Apparently you dont really use Win98. You just come to this group to
spout off your ****ing mouth, with no brains behind it.....

YOU are the TROLL !!!!

Uh... no.

There is no browser that works on Win98 anymore.

There are plenty of browsers that work under 9x. They may not be the latest
and greatest, but they work just fine. The real problem is that many modern
websites don't support old browsers.

Opera 10.63 should work for many sites that reject MSIE 6 and older:

http://www.oldversion.com/windows/opera-10-63

....and there are other 9x-capable browsers that have varying degrees of
support for modern web standards.

I use usenet and email only.

The 1980's called, they want their internet back.

Even if there was a browser that worked with 98, I have no
desire to use the web.

And yet, that is where your answer lies, because after this nonsense, I
doubt anyone will spoon-feed you the answer.

Apparently you dont really use Win98. You just come to this group to
spout off your ****ing mouth, with no brains behind it.....

Dear Kettle,
I don't know how to tell you this, but there's something
that's been concerning me about your current hue...

YOU are the TROLL !!!!

No, Rudy just isn't suffering fools gladly, and you are very firmly in that
category. You asked an off-topic question, and you rejected the most obvious
source of answers with profanity and insults.

Ralph,

There is no browser that works on Win98 anymore.

I have to talk about my shrink about that so he can increase my medication
again, as I could have *sworn* that just this morning I opened up my
webbrowser on my W98se 'puter to read a swat of web-strips, visited a few
news sites, did some googleing, and grabbed me a list of todays TV programs.

Apparently you dont really use Win98.

And apparently you just pull things right outof your ass.

My Win98s machine is infact still my main computer, on which, next to doing
my email and visiting newsgroups to reply to trolls, I still write programs.

And a question for you: if someone finds he cannot drive his car everywhere
he wants anymore, than ditches it and starts to claim no useable cars exist
for him, how would you call such a person ? An idiot ? Yes, I would too.

And no, you refusing to do with what you (still!) can have does not give you
the right to just dump questions to whatever you want to know in a random
newsgroup.

And a suggestion: You *could* try to find yourself an OS which would enable
you to browse the web to your hearts content (Linux, but even XP comes to
mind), and put it on a second 'puter, or even double-boot it. Ever thought
about that ?

And as a "last resort", you could always see if your local library offers
some free computer time.

You have quite a few options open. Use them.

Regards,
Rudy Wieser

P.s.
Check your 'puters clock. Your reply has a timestamp from beforee the
message you responded to.

Ralph,

Actually, Zero of both. You see, I *know* that I can't visit some websites
(anymore). But hey, there are lots left I *can* visit. Including Google.
Something either escapes you, or you just do not want to know. :-(

Actually, I'm more alike you than you realize. I've never installed flash,
and have disabled JS and other webpage scripting -- the former of which
could well attribute to not seeing any scripting errors. :-)

As for SSL problems ? I do not often see them, as I've got, for the last
decade or so, a local proxy installed which "does stuff" to HTTPS references
("stuff" the proxy allowed me to write), so I am not bothered by them (mind
you, I've configured my webbrowser to warn me on most all problems it
finds. Somehow I like to be informed when a website misbehaves ...)

That same proxy supported some newer SSL encryption methods, meaning that I
can stil visit most HTTPS webpages. Though that could end very soon, when
"the powers that be" decide to ditch a number of encryption methods.

And than I have the same choice as I offered you: Either set up another OS
with a webbrowser which supports the newer SSL encryptions, or, just as you,
go throw away the baby with the bathwater and sulk about everything I'm not
able to do anymore. Guess what *my* choice will probably be. :-)

WHAT PART OF THE WORDS "I DON'T CARE TO USE
THE WEB", DONT YOU UNDERSTAND?

Oh, now you have *said it* I do understand. What do you think I am, a
mindreader ?

And I take it this will be your last message to us than ? I mean,
newsgroups use "the web" too you know. Same problem for email I'm afraid.

But, as its *your choice* to refuse to use HTTP (websites) its also *your
problem* to solve how you get your info otherwise. And no, that does not in
include you can demand from us, fully random people, to fill in that gap
(and yell at us when whe refuse). Go talk to your mom, maybe she will
(still) indulge you ...

And as I said, you have a number of choices (Linux, XP) to make the
"websites web" usable for you again. Its your choice, and yours alone, to
refuse to even consider them.

- - - I PROMISE, I WONT FEED TROLLS - - -

Than you will die very soon. :-)

But no, I do not really still think that you're a troll. Just someone with
quaint ideas about who is responsible for choices *you* are making.

Regards,
Rudy Wieser.
