The "downloaded messages" count is way off in OE now for this group?
Has anyone else noted this problem with this win98 newsgroup recently, where
you routinely check in to look at messages (as a subscribed newsgroup), and it often says something like "14 not downloaded...", yet there really is nothing to download at this point in time? (but if you've waited awhile, you will see and get new messages, so that part still works, at least) And even if you select "Catch Up", and come right back again, it says nearly the same thing (with 14 messages, or 7, or 3, or whatever number of messages "not downloaded")? (And "Get Next Headers" has no effect here, either) I even unsubscibed and resubscribed to this newsgroup and all that a couple of times, and it still acts the same way. I do NOT have this problem with the other newsgroups I'm subscribed to, only this win98 one. Which is pretty weird. |

I am seeing 18. I think I saw the same in one of the XP groups a couple
of days ago with one not downloaded, but it has cleared itself up. I haven't tried resetting the group yet. "Bill in Co." wrote in message ... I'm currently seeing 11 "ghosts" for Win98 General. Number keeps going up &
down. These ghosts will only be seen in OE newsreader. The problem's on MS's end, not yours. A quick glance at the web-based access for this (and other) MS newsgroup will show you that there's been a problem on MS's end since the morning of 23 Dec-08, no doubt due to the confluence of extremely bad weather and everyone taking their vacation days before they expire next week: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...n_discuss ion PS: If the "ghosts" annoy you, do a Catch Up. A Reset probably will NOT help. -- ~PA Bear "Bill in Co." wrote in message ... It's pretty weird. I've done a Catch Up (and even unsubscribed and
resubscribed) to no effect in OE, but I'm glad to know the ghost problem is on MS's end, and not my end, at least. :-) PA Bear [MS MVP] wrote: I'm currently seeing 11 "ghosts" for Win98 General. 9 ghosts right now on my end. (This will depend on which "slave" newsserver
you're connected to at the time.) Rick Chauvin wrote: Same here on all counts, today I see 18. btw, Happy Holidays & Best Wishes guys.
