Sound Help

Anyone got any ideas of where else I can look to make a pair of speakers
attached to a WinME machine work g

The speakers that were in use on the machine no longer work (guinea pig
chewed the connecting wire) I had a set of speakers that came with Johns
machine that we don't use as our Monitors have speakers built in.

Connected these speakers but only get very faint sound, I've been through
all the settings I can think of and they are all turned up to full volume,
so can anyone think of anywhere else that might help.

Did you download the "dreaded drivers" for the different speakers?? Tis

Just guessing here. Faint sound would mean the speakers are connected to
Line Out and they need an amplified Speaker Out. Ideally you have four
sound connections Line In, Line Out, Speaker Out, Mic In. If you have no
Speaker Out you will have to use speakers that have an amplifier, powered by
a connection to a 120v outlet.

I remember hearing that if you hold a guinea pig up by the tail, it's
eyes will fall out!

Is it true?

My first suspicion would coincide with what John said. I'm betting
you had to plug your old speakers into a power outlet and these new ones
don't have that. The easiest thing to do would be to simply splice the
chewed wires back together. A little solder and some heat shrink tubing or
tape and you will be back in business!

I think you could be right about this John, the old speakers plugged into
the electricity socket and the computer and one of them have a volume
control and a socket which I think was for headphones. The speakers we are
trying to use are just ones that came with Johns eMachine which aren't
needed as his LCD monitor has speakers built in.

There is only 3 places to connect on the back of Kelly's machine so
obviously there is no amplified Speaker Out :-( mind you there are only 3
places on John's machine but they must be amplified.

Oh well she'll just have to live with no sound unless she buys herself
some new speakers which she wont do as she wants to have a laptop in the
near future, and she knows I wont spend any more money on that machine of
hers g

You're right Heirloom, see my answer to John.
John did try to splice but said the wires were too thin so gave up and
threw them away. He's got no patience g plus I don't think we have a
solder iron.
