Default Transparent Desktop Icons

I'm using an image as my wallpaper so ME is requiring that
I enable the Active Desktop. What I'm looking for is a
way to have the background on my icons appear
transparent. Any ideas? The shareware I've found won't
work with Active Desktop enabled.

Thanks

It would help if you were to tell us what you have already tried. See
also a recent thread in this NG started by Sean on this same topic about
10-14 days ago.

Transparent Icon Names

You can avoid this problem in Me using transparent.exe from Transparent 4
(http://www.pobox.com/~jayguerette/transparent).

Jack that link is long since dead however as I mentioned in the previous
thread to which I referred the poster putting Guerette and transparent
into Google throws up several
hits including
http://www.geocities.com/mangokun/tr...sparentgui.htm which
appears to be free. The main purpose of my post though was to try and
establish what applets the poster had already tried.

I searched on google and tried a number of different
shareware programs including disappear, trtext,
wallmaster, and iconoid. None of these worked with Active
Desktop enabled. I'm tryiong to use a picture for my
wallpaper/background and ME says that Active Desktop needs
to be enabled. Ohhh do I miss 95 sometimes and the
system I purchased from HP came with XP without any CDs
and now HP is trying to get me to buy XP again. Don't
ever think of dealing with those poor rats anymore.

BMP images don't require active desktop to be enabled, only JPG images.

HP should have provided you the means to restore XP as I'm pretty sure
this a condition of their contract as an OEM with Microsoft. This is
normally for al but the smallest of OEMs either as a recovery CD or a
hidden image on your hard drive that can be used to restore the operating
system. Why you need to purchase another copy of XP unless you want to
install it on another PC.

Ohhh do I miss 95 sometimes

I shudder at the thought. g As for returning to Win 95 that rather
depends on what you want to do with your PC. For myself it would be
hopeless with a maximum partition size of just 4GB using 64KB clusters and
being unable to run most applications written in the last five or six
years. :-)

I know....bmp's only display 256 colors and I'm trying to
display a picture of people. I got a copy of that
freeware program mentioned earlier and it is working.

Also, HP shipped this system without any recovery CD.
They did this on a number of systems for awhile
(2002/2003). Their answer was that they posted this on
their tech support site and that I could have received one
at no charge. Since I never went to their tech support
site until recently, I was "past the time alloted" and
would have to purchase one. They stated that HP still
owns the operating system. I've mulled over legal action
but since this would be a small claims case that I would
easily win but have a hard time enforcing, I gave up and
am buying a Dell system. I've also donated my HP printer
to a charity and bought an Epson. This would make a great
class action case! My goal in life now is to put HP out
odf business.
