Windows ME Right Click Problem and Iexplorer6 Problem

Howdy all

I have 2 problems which should not be related.

1. Right click on any Icon and my computer freezes. I can right click on
the desktop no problem, just not over an icon. Right click within any
program is just fine. Its just right clicking over the 'Start menu' and
right clicking over any icons in any explorer window and the computer
freezes. Any ideas


2. Cant seem to ever be able to install internet Explorer 6. I have tried
for about 9 months now. Tried from cd rom and online. Just keeps wanting to
shut the computer down to finish installation then when I reboot and wants
to go over it all again(the continue installation process and then shut
down). Sometimes it says things like ' Previous installation did not
complete must start again to complete installation',.try that and then it
just goes one the 'shut down...complete...shut down' cycle all over again.
I have tried about 10 times now over the last year...each time having to
shut down etc about 10 times then I just give up. Any ideas?

Windows ME ..all updates are done. Except IE6(of course).
2.8Ghz cpu 80 Gig HDD 7200rpm defraged.

Your IE6 problem......

Are you by any chance running Norton? -
try running SCANREG /FIX from a command prompt , then rebooting to Safe
Mode, and installing IE from there.
See if that helps.

On problem #1, do you use the "eraser" utility? This can cause the right
click problem following some of the security upgrades.

On problem #1, do you use the "eraser" utility? This can cause the right
click problem following some of the security upgrades.


Yes I do..but I have had Eraser on my computers for like 4 years. On this
computer for about 8 months problem #1 has only been for about 3 weeks
now . Actually now that I think about it.......for the first time ever I
decided to use Erasers Schedule features about the same time this problem
started. hmmmm.....ok will uninstall....and check it out. thx

That worked......might as well go and install IE6 and see if Eraser had been
screwing with that all this time.
