Cannot connect to other computers
I bought a computer from a friend, with WinME on it. I have successfully got
it wirelessly connected to my network. I can see and access the internet fine. However whenever I try to access drives on my other two computers, I get the password box. The other computers are running Win2KPro. There is no password set on either drive. Can you help? |

Is it asking for the IPC$ password? If so, Win2KPro is trying to validate the user name that wants to access its shared drives. The solution is to create a user account on the Win2KPro computers with the same user name and password that you use to log onto Windows Me. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Cannot connect to other computers
Thank you, Steve. Yes, that is what it is asking for. So are you saying that
I have to be signed onto all machines with the same Windows login? "Steve Winograd [MVP]" wrote: In article , LadyJR wrote: I bought a computer from a friend, with WinME on it. So are you saying that I have to be signed onto all machines with the same Windows login? You're welcome, LadyJR. Logging into all machines with the same user name and password is one way to solve the problem, but it's not the only way. You can define multiple user accounts on the Win2KPro computers. As long as one of those accounts has the same user name and password that you use to log in on WinME, everything will work. You don't have to log into Win2KPro using that account. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
