Is the display any better if you boot into Safe Mode (albeit in 640 x 480,
256 colours)? (To boot into Safe Mode, press & hold the Shift Key
throughout the boot process.)

If so, sounds like a driver issue. Try Removing all display adapters :-

Control Panel / System / Device Manager select and 'Remove' ALL references
to your Display Adapters (and Monitors).

Re-boot and let WinMe re-detect (plug&play) your Display Adapter etc. and
install
the (latest) WinMe drivers for your card.

N.B. You should confirm that you do have the latest WinMe drivers for your
Video card by checking on the manufactures web site.

3 split screens? Please explain. Are you saying that you get three
separate images of your desktop on the monitor?

Try reinstalling your video drivers.
First boot to Safe Mode, open the Device Manager and delete all entries
relating to your graphics adapter. Reboot back in to Normal Mode and let
Win Me redetect your hardware and reinstall your video drivers. Now
configure by selecting the appropriate resolution and colour depth.
If this doesn't resolve the problem check either the Dell site or the
graphics adapter's manufacturer's web site for updated Win Me compatible
video drivers. If located, download and install.

In Safe Mode, I can change the resaolution and colours. In SM, I deleted all
the adapters (which read as 16MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra) and all the monitor
(read as default). Upon reboot in Normal mode, it still give a 3 split
monitor screen with the same details for the adapter and monitor. (I install
the driver fron the cd that comes with the dell pc). Guess need to look for
the latest driver....... thanks

Yes, I have 3 separate images of desktop on the monitor. I tried again,
deleting all the adapter/monitor in SM and reboot. It redetect the driver and
its back to square one, still 3 separate images of desktop on the monitor and
they are not overlapping.
Will look up at Dell's or graphic website.... thanks

16MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra?

Can't find 'Ultra' but you could try here for starters for 'WinMe Drivers
and Software'

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

What resolution are you setting? It could be that you are trying to
exceed the capabilities of either or both of your card and monitor. Try
dropping the resolution back and see if that resolves the problem.

Resolution is at 800x600 and 256 colours.
Split screen does not exist when I use a different monitor, so I guess it is
save to assume that the monitor is the problem. Will try to confirm it with
other pc. ......thanks

Are the three images different colours? In which case this would suggest
the guns are out of alignment on the monitor. Since you've now
demonstrated the problem is with the monitor it looks like now's the time
for a shopping trip, either that or a visit to eBay. g

The 3 images are of the same colour, in fact identical to each other. Will
see if it works on other pc if I get the chance..... thanks
