Default Video Mode not supported - help

I was trying to help a friend out with their Windows ME
system on a Presario 5000 with a Samsung monitor. I went
into the display settings to change the mode. When I did,
it immediately displayed "Video Mode not supported", and
started dancing across the screen. I powered off the
machine and this is what I get upon boot up. I tried
getting into Safe Mode by holding down the CTRL key upon
boot up and it would'nt go into Safe mode. She can not
find her original ME cd.
What can I do to get the system up to Standard VGA and
change the video properties back to what it was before.
Feeling pretty stupid, hey I'm an XP guy not an ME guy.

Try tapping F8 after the POST screen and before Win Me starts to get into
the Start Menu if Ctrl doesn't work. If you still cannot get into Safe
Mode and are happy at working in DOS, boot to a DOS prompt using a boot
floppy and use EDIT to edit the file MSDOS.SYS which is in the root of C:
and add
BootMenu=1
in the section [Options]

This will then automatically display the boot menu when starting Win Me.
