Help with adware threat?
[this is the FIFTH attempt to post this msg here !!!]
The website at Pest Patrol did a scan on my Win98SE and found "multidial" threat I can't find much about it After downloading ad-aware and spybot, both of them never found it. So what is it? Is it bad? How do I get rid of it? - Robert - |

Help with adware threat?
Some scanners can give false positive results.
A dialler is a program that attempts to dial-up a premium-rate number when you are online, but it has to log off from the web and redial the premium-rate number, which Windows doesn't allow unless you OK it first. A message will come up asking if you want to log off and redial. You just have to refuse the request. If you say OK, Windows logs off and dials the premium-rate number. It can't access such a number while you are logged on to your ISP, it has to redial. If you don't get a request to redial, you don't have a dialler installed. Help with adware threat?
Eric,
Thank you for your prompt reply with a complete description. Indeed have never gotten such a request while online. However,...Have gotten "Dial up" Windows at inappropriate times when not online, as the computer was trying to connect to the internet. I've always declined the request, but don't know what is initiating the requrest. And the dial up request is the normal number of our ISP. - Robert - |
