Please Help : DirectX affects icons

I have an Intel Celeron 2Ghz PC, 256 m DDR Ram, Intel
845GL chipset motherboard with 8mb Vram, Win ME and
Directx9. I had directx9b previously. But once I installed
directx9c, all the smaller icons (in Windows explorer menu
tree, taskbar etc) have become corrupt. They are of
peculiar shapes now and are black. However, other icons
like desktop icons, Windows explorer folder icons etc are
alright. I tried to re-install directx 9b but it's no good.

Anyone please help me get rid of this problem.

Delete the hidden file SHELLICONCACHE (no extension) and reboot. Windows
will rebuilt all your icons.

Hi Jerry,
Thanks very much for your suggestion. I have tried
deleting SHELLICONCACHE. But after rebooting, same problem
is occuring once again. I even can't see any icons in the
Start Menu pop-up

Try downloading and installing the IconCache fix from here
