win98/win98se
I currently have win 98 on my computer with all the
updates and cum. service pak 1. I'm installing a cd-rw drive and it says it needs win 98se. Is there a way to update to se or will it work anyway with the updates i've install? |

You have to upGRADE (not update) to Windows 98 SE. To do so, you have to buy an
Upgrade or Full Retail Win98SE CD. Or, buy an OEM CD instead. Though it normally does not upgrade Win98 to 98SE, there are many sites around that will explain how you *may* be able to use an OEM to simply upgrade--it's not always successful, so consider yourself warned. However! Considering the fact that installing Windows98SE over the top of a Win98 "Gold" that's been fully updated is actually a significant downgrade, I always recommend that people reformat and clean install Win98SE OEM. It may seem like more work, but when you consider how less likely your system is to have problems afterwards, how likely it is that you will *still* need to reinstall several apps and updates, even drivers, after doing a simple upgrade, "clean" install is the way to go. -- Gary S.
