Default Help with DW Messages

Hi,

I have had DW record some of my crashes, but I'm not sure
what it all means. As those of you who recognize my
posts know ... I am having frequent "hangings" -
sometimes every 5 minutes. I have recently added an
external plug and play USB drive and a wireless network.
The laptop connected to the wireless does not hang.

Default Help with DW Messages

Hi Jay, I keep seeing you around the groups and have replied to the USB
powered hub issue on the original thread.

However, this 'frequent hangs' problem may or may not be related and perhaps
you should start by trying to ascertain whether its a heat/hardware issue
rather than a WinMe issue. If heat related then the inside of the box may
need a good clearout. (A lot of dust gets sucked into box due to the fan(s)
and can reduce the cooling efficiency)

Boot using your Windows Startup (floppy) Disk and let it continue to the DOS
Help page. Leave it running for several hours and scroll up and down the
Help pages checking to see if it still hangs.

If so, then it's a problem with your PC and not with WinMe.

If not, then boot into Safe Mode (F8 or Ctrl keys at boot-up) and leave it
running in that mode for a few hours and again see if it hangs. If so, you
may
need to disconnect external items of hardware to see if you can isolate it.

You could also try removing your USB drive and Wifi card and seeing how the
PC runs without them. It's a (long) process of elimination, I'm afraid.

Good luck

Mart
