Incomplete installation
I created a new installation from my old
original 98 CD and along the way, it could not find several .dll's, which I allowed it to skip. It went to completion, but I'm wondering why, and what I can do to correct it. I'm thinking that perhaps the CD, although it hasn't been out of its jewel case in two or more years, got dusty. I hate to do the whole installation over again. Any advice? -- William B. Lurie |

The only other Bill Lurie of whom I'm aware is my 92-year old cousin, in California, who is still active in U. S. Tennis tournaments. And yes, I've been Netscape-based ever since Netscape 2, then though 7, and now TBird and Firefox. From across the pond..... Kind regards.... -- William B. Lurie |

Well, it's newly installed, and if something malfunctions, I'm sure to wonder if the cause is or isn't the dozen or more ..DLL files that it somehow 'couldn't find' on the genuine Microsoft installation disk. At the moment, I'm torn between just hoping it's okay, and starting all over again. -- William B. Lurie |

Do you recall any of the names of the missing .dll files?

But that leads to another question: this is original issue Win 98. Can I download an upgrade or SP? Is there anything like that? -- William B. Lurie |

Best way I've found to repair CDs is using car wax. Wipe it on, let it dry,
polish using radial stokes (center to edge) not circular ones. It is *always* best, if possible, to copy the contents of the installation CD to your HD before installing from the HD copy. In reality, all you need are the files inside the WIN98 folder (not including sub-folders). -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User wrote in message ...
