Default Help Center Error

When I attempt to start the Help I get a message that
initialization has failed and I should report error number
2147143678 to Microsoft. I've tried contacting them, but
there seems to be no other option than to pay them for
help. Since I'm reporting it at their request I think it's
a bit silly to pay them. I can't find help in their
knowledge base. What little is there I tried to no avail.
Is it possible to somehow uninstall the help and then
reinstall it? All I have is a recovery disc because
Windows ME came loaded on the computer when I bought it.
Thanks, turnstone

I just realized I posted this question before on this
site. Sorry about that. However I still don't have my help
center working so maybe someone has another suggestion?

Look here for help with Help
http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/HSfails.htm

If you've already BTDT, then you need to give us the results of your
attempts to fix - did you get any error messages?

Download and install/run Belarc Advisor - check the list of Installed
Hofixes, and repair any that are shown to be broken.

Hi. I tried a lot of the suggestions on the site you sent
the link for. At first everything I tried was a dead end.
There seemed to be a new problem develop with each one,
some reason why it wouldn't work. In the end I backed
everything up and reinstalled windows ME. The Help Center
still failed, but then I went back to the site and tried
the fixes again and finally got it working. It didn't seem
to be one particular thing that was the answer, just a
combination of different fixes in their list. Anyway it's
working now and I'm sorry I can't give you a definite list
of the steps I took. I worked on it for hours and even
though I was recording the steps I was taking, eventually
I quit because I would have had to write a book. I can say
though that the fix dealing with the "Jet engine" was one
of the last things I did just before it started working
again. Thanks for guiding me to the right place. I
appreciate the help. Turnstone

You're welcome - and well done!
Persistence is crucial with errors of this kind, as you've discovered.

Good Luck
