Where does MS Office keep its data?
I recently had to reinstall Windows 98 (to upgrade to SE).
As a result I had to reinstall MS Office, but the data has all vanished -- calendar, address book etc. Where does MS Office keep it? -- Steve Hayes from Tshwane, South Africa http://www.geocities.com/Athens/7734/stevesig.htm E-mail - see web page, or parse: shayes at dunelm full stop org full stop uk |

Better to ask this one in an Office newsgroup. I *believe* they're buried in
C:\Program Files\Common Files. But did you reformat before reinstalling? If so, the data is all gone. -- Gary S. Terhune MS-MVP Shell/User "Steve Hayes" wrote in message ... For Outlook's files search the system for *.pst archive files. Other than the archive files Outlook's data (calendar, email, contacts) MAY have been overwriten by the reinstalation. This behavior could serve to replace a corrupted file. Unfortunately the old data would be destroyed unless you could recover it from an archive or other backup. Documents for the other Office applications should be OK but any changes to default document templates may have been overwriten. |

It may depend on what version of Office. However, on my Outlook 2K, the
source file, outlook.pst is located at windows\local settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. As is the archive.pst file as well. Don't confuse the archive as a backup of all your settings in Outlook. Outlook has a facility of saving all your settings in your choice of location in pst file format. There is an update for the noted version of Office that prompts you to save your settings, mail, calendar in pst format in a location of your choice on an intermittent basis. Mine is around 48MB in size, default filename is outlook backup.pst. If you reinstalled Office, it may have overwritten the pst files. "Steve Hayes" wrote in message ... I found the outlook.pst file in a backup directory, copied it across, and was able to read and add to my "Contacts", but couldn't access the Calendar -- but reminders kept popping up. The To-do list was also inaccessible. Nut still, it's something to play with.
