scandisk & defrag
Hi all,
How many of you ran scan disk, then defrag on your comp. After the defrag is done, you reboot to find non-system disk error? Running scan disk with a boot floppy, comes up with tons of errors. Using a USB cradle, I was able to access the drive and backup the important data. Unfortunately, I don`t have an official ME install CD, just the recovery CD`s, so I couldn`t do a repair. Seems the MBR and few other things got screwed up. Used the recovery CD`s to reinstall on C drive only and system is up and running. Has anyone had that happen to them?? Jeff |

Can't help with the rest of your issues but for future info. :-
Unfortunately, I don`t have an official ME install CD, just the recovery CD`s, so I couldn`t do a repair. Depending on the OEM (they might NOT have included this option), you *may* find a 'full set' of WinMe setup files in the C:\Windows\Options\CABS folder (or \Install if 'retail' version). Doesn't NON SYSTEM DISK ERROR MEAN YA LEFT THE BOOT DISK
IN THE A DRIVE WHEN YA REBOOTED??? Doing a RECOVERY WITH THE RECOVERY CD IS THE FULL VERSION BEING REINSTALLED OR RECOVERED BUT YOU SHOULD DO A PARTIAL RECOVERY NOT A FULL, AS A FULL RECOVERY WILL WIPE OUT ALL YOUR FILES. A PARTIAL RECOVERY WILL RELOAD THE FILES YOU NEED TO RECOVER TO GET GOING WITHOUT WIPING OUT EVERYTHING ELSE Hope that helps!! By the way, a BLUE screen in "technical terms" is referred to as "The Blue Screen of DEATH"!! Hope that answers your questions. -----Original Message----- Can't help with the rest of your issues but for future info. :- Unfortunately, I don`t have an official ME install CD, just the recovery CD`s, so I couldn`t do a repair.
