Windows Media Player 10 for Windows 98
Unofficial 98MP10 upgrades older Windows Media Player 9.0 (WMP9) files
to newer Windows Media Player 10.0 (WMP10) 98MP10 adds newer WMP10 XP + WMP9 XP SP3 functionality even if you do NOT see 10.x.x.xxxx build whenever you run WMPLAYER.EXE or MPLAYER2.EXE in the Help - About Windows Media Player dialog box. WMP9 build/version does NOT change even after installing 98MP10, because WMP9 specific core files (like WMP.DLL) canNOT and should NOT be replaced. If you do replace any of them, WMP9 will lock up. Therefore when installing any official/unofficial (security) patches/(hot)fixes, you will be able, just as before, to install ONLY files created specifically for WMP9 AND Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME. http://www.mdgx.com/98mp10/98mp10.php 98MP10 advantages + improvements: - fixed most WMP9 bugs + security vulnerabilities - better audio + video hardware rendering - professional MP3 codec with variable bit rate encoding - better/faster streaming over networks/internet - updated DRM support (remove DRM functionality if desired) - disable WMP Unique-ID (prevents Microsoft from identifying you) - minor interface changes. |

You know damn well these also subject the users to potential and ongoing V10 vulnerabilities which are not protected via 9X capable AV and other programs due to the differing operating environments and expected respective activities. Why don't you just keep this crap over on MSFN and the other sites and forums that cater to this type of UNTESTED [other than installation] modifications. Don't bother pointing to the users of those modifications for supposed "testing" as most of those {such as you} know only that the modifications install.. {gees I hate to have to say that for Axcel216/MGDx after all the good work done "during the day"} -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Info, Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The "real world" of Law, Justice, and Government ___--- |

MEB, you sometimes answer posts with information which is helpful. BUT
the traffic cop approach (e.g. your response to 98Guy's post in this thread) is just nauseating. It's been addressed before. Don't you have anything better to do with your time than act as this groups traffic cop? We all know this NG addresses an 11 year old (read: ELEVEN YEAR OLD) operating system, superceded by ME, W2K, XP, Vista, Win7. It is followed by few people, many of whom (such as myself) *APPRECIATE* ANY WAY TO CONTINUE USING W98 as technology RACES away!! GET IT? And don't you think people using an operating system ELEVEN YEARS OLD have SOME experience with operating systems and realize W98 is UNSUPPORTED and subject to all kinds of malicious intrusion (BTW; as is *ANY* OS, READ *ANY* , *ANY*, *ANY* OS), or do you think people are incapable of taking care of these matters and NEED you acting as a trumpet and their protector? Come on, give us a break with that nonsense. I'd like to continue to see you address posts in a helpful, not HATEFUL manner as is the case here. Wouldn't you rather be though of as HELPFUL instead of your NOW perceived participation as an irritant! Thanks to 98Guy for keeping us updated with these mods to keep W98 going! I for one don't always use them but keep information in the back of my mind or even archive it for possible future use. And like MANY, I want to keep W98 alive as long as possible (because I use it)! |

OK guys, after MEBs response to my post I had to do it, after probably
10 years of not having to block senders, I had to do it. So now it's done. *ALL* MEBs posts are deleted from my system and will no longer even see them on the system (hurray!). Sorry MEB (for you), you are just acting too weird! How old are you? Acting like a self-righteous juvenile, I hope you are not an OLD man! GROW-UP! ___ "someone watching" wrote in message ... HEHEHEHE, so you won't see this then, too bad... those that do should remember that most of the parties making non-standard installation recommendations haven't used 9X for several years except MAYBE to play around with occasionally. Many never use Windows at all... These non-standard file installations are a bad idea, and DO introduce unknowns {including files never found in 9X except for special needs} into the stable environment left by EOL. IF you need a browser then find one that provides the functionality and MORE that IE6 once provided rather than non-tested files. As for Media Player, there are numerous players available, many still being created and updated, and supply 9X capability. The best thing per Media Player is to BLOCK its access to the Internet altogether, and if necessary, use something else, generally WITHOUT the DRM and massive bloat. As for additional codex, there are some available to extend the capabilities of Media Player.... -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.org/ref/windows-main.htm Windows Info, Diagnostics, Security, Networking http://peoplescounsel.org The "real world" of Law, Justice, and Government ___--- |

Yep, there are programmers out there, the same ones you knock for daring to provide apps for "9X". I still use Win98 and am thankful for the efforts of others to keep it going, as distinct from your abusive "Know it All" crap. If you had a real interest, you would test apps yourself, instead of bleating about others achievements. You are deficient in all that lends character. You have the personality of wallpaper. |
