Default DLL was not found?

When ever I try to open an application in the accessories
section of my start menu the following message comes up: "
a required .DLL file,MFC42.DLL was not found." the
application then remains unopened. This sometimes also
happens when I try to open some documents, what does this
mean and how do I rectify it?

Please help.

Trish.

Extract the files from your Windows CD, to the Windows\System folder.
