Win 98 as a file / print server?
I have a Windows 98 machine (it's an old clunker - 486 or P1 I
think...). I want to connect this to my LAN at home and use it as a file and print server for two laptops. My laptops are Win2000 and XP. How would I set up the Windows 98 machine to make itself known on the network? I have no other machines on my LAN and my Linksys router does DHCP allocation. Thanks , Chris |

Thanks , Chris You install a network card in it and turn on print sharing. But I don't think that's a good idea, because the amount of money you're going to spend on electricity to keep it running for a year would probably buy a cheap print server designed specifically for the task, and which you can tuck away where it won't even be noticed. -- The e-mail address in our reply-to line is reversed in an attempt to minimize spam. Scratch that last bit -- I forgot you said you were going to file serve, too. -- The e-mail address in our reply-to line is reversed in an attempt to minimize spam.
