Ken,

See MS KB 152104 - "How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me
Logon Prompt at Startup" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=152104).

Basically you need to change to using Windows Logon in Control Panel |
Network. Then when you next log on don't enter a password (leave blank)
and click OK. If you've already allocated a password logon and then
delete or better rename the password file in the Windows folder - this is
a file whose name is your logon name with a pwl extension.

Don't click Cancel or Escape as this will mean that you don't log on and
are instead what is called the Default User which means you won't be able
to save passwords and have access to certain features.

Perhaps you inadvertently set a password. Locate and delete any password
(pwl) file in the windows folder and then log off and then back on again
and leave the password box blank and click OK.

.....changing network settings can also have the same result of forcing a
logon - it may be worth scanning for trojans/spyware.

You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mca...rt/stinger.exe

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

I have had the same thing happen. Sometimes when I boot up it will ask for a
password, other times it does not. Everything seems to work either way.
