Ken,
See MS KB 152104 - "How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me Logon Prompt at Startup" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=152104). Basically you need to change to using Windows Logon in Control Panel | Network. Then when you next log on don't enter a password (leave blank) and click OK. If you've already allocated a password logon and then delete or better rename the password file in the Windows folder - this is a file whose name is your logon name with a pwl extension. Don't click Cancel or Escape as this will mean that you don't log on and are instead what is called the Default User which means you won't be able to save passwords and have access to certain features. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP coalmover wrote: i have been using this computer for 2 years and every day when o turn it on i never get the user name and password box, now today it pops up how did this happen and how do i get rid of it thanks |

.....changing network settings can also have the same result of forcing a
logon - it may be worth scanning for trojans/spyware. You may have a virus/spyware hijack download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling viruses are not present on your PC http://download.nai.com/products/mca...rt/stinger.exe - update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files. download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from your system. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Mike M" wrote in message ... coalmover wrote: Mike, thanks for the quick response, but i never had to log on to windows it automaticly went to my desk top why would that change over night my primary logon is windows logon Perhaps you inadvertently set a password. I have had the same thing happen. Sometimes when I boot up it will ask for a password, other times it does not. Everything seems to work either way. |
