Default himem.sys file corrupt or missing

Hello,
After installing and using Dreamweaver for about an hour,
my computer froze. When I rebooted it, I received a dos
error message saying "Himem.sys file missing or
corrupt". I found checked the knowledge base in the
windows website and followed the instructions which were
to extract the himem.sys file from my windows 98 boot
disk. Everything went exactly as it was supposed to but
when I rebooted as instructed, I still get the same error
message. While I was fiddling around trying to get the
computer to reboot, I was getting more messages stating
that several other files were corrupt or not
found...these files are system files which are on the
startup disk. I appears that my entire config.sys file
is corrupt.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim
