Need updates for sound

I viewed my installation history from Microsoft. I didn't
download any in 2001. I can't tell if I downloaded all
that I should have the rest of the years.

In 1999, I trained via chat rooms with sound and had no
problems. Now, I am trying to train again but can barely
hear and have a whole lot of white noise. I think I need
some more microsoft downloads but how do I figure out
which ones? Thank you for your assistance.

You need to diagnose the problem. Does it occur for all sounds or only in
chatrooms? Does it occur all the time or only for some rooms? Does it make
a difference how you are connected to the www?
