Default Downgrade to Windows 98SE

I am fed up with Windows XP Home Edition, which came preinstalled on my
1-year-old Dell computer. I didn't completely get rid of XP, but, rather,
used PowerQuest's Partion Magic and Boot Magic to install Windows 98 (the 2
OSes are completely hidden from each other, no contact between the two
happens).

When I install 98SE, my graphics card conflicts with the following:
System board extension for ACPI Bios
Direct memory access controller

I cannot change any of the I/O Ranges for my graphics card, the system
board, or the memory controller. Because of this conflict, it will not let
me install the proper drivers for my graphics card, which is an ATI Radeon
9700 TX with TV/DVI out.

If anyone has any suggestions for what I can do, please reply. Help would
be greatly appreciated.

Also, I do not have this problem with Windows XP because I think it manages
the I/O Ranges better than 98SE does.

Thanks again for any help

These sorts of issues can arise when you use new hardware with an
older operating system, especially one that is not fully supported by
the hardware manufacturers.

Have you checked with the Dell website for any possible Windows 98
drivers for your exact Dell model? I doubt if they have any, but it
wouldn't hurt to check.

Good luck
