Win98SE updates
Given that Win98SE is now End Of Life, are updates (up to the date of EOL)
still available? If I install Win98SE on a new machine, will I be able to automatically get all the hotfixes (say via Windows update) or will I have to install them one by one? TIA, -GB |

If I install Win98SE on a new machine, will I be able to
automatically get all the hotfixes (say via Windows update) Yes. That's how. You'll need a newer IE to do it. I've just done that (and wished I hadn't). |

You need to install IE6 SP1. (Slightly earlier versions of IE apparently
also work, but if you're going to update entirely, might as well start with the latest IE for Win98.) Get IE6 SP1 he http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en TinyURL= http://tinyurl.com/6zjbm -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "computerguy" wrote in message ... Win98SE updates
My recommendation is that you install IE6 SP1, update Windows fully at
Windows Updates, then use whatever else you want to use as a browser, or do whatever else it is you plan to do. There's nothing inherently safer about earlier versions of IE. Might as well get it as up to date as it will go. If you have specific problems with it, you might try uninstalling it and installing IE 5.5. You may still be able to connect to Windows Updates, and you'd want to since you'd be missing the Updates for that version of IE. Note, I *do_not* recommend that you use anything less than IE6SP1. Just giving you info you might want. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "budgie" wrote in message news On Fri, 22 Sep 2006 21:23:35 -0700, "Gary S. Terhune" wrote: You need to install IE6 SP1. Although it still uses the core of IE...you may want to try the Enigma browser... It seems to work a bit better |

Win98SE updates
It performs an upgrade. IE6SETUP is simply the installer stub. Once you
choose the components you want (using Minimal or Custom option), or if you choose Typical, it then downloads the components you need, then installs them. -- Gary S.
