Default Unofficial Time Zones Update (Testers wanted)

The mod should work fine, so long as the Time Zones key in NT is in the same
location as in 2000, and the Values are named the same, etc. The BAT file
should have created a TZ_BAK.reg file in the %windir%. If that doesn't
exist, something's wrong. If it does exist, could you please send me that
file, so I can reassure myself that the original structure looks like I
think it should look.

THANKS!!!

I've got an NT4 installtion...
I'll try it there shortly

Ok tried it and the .bat file successfully merged the registry key...
Of course I did not test to see if the mod really works

| What's a Google site map, and what would I do with it?

Actually, that is somewhat of a misnomer now. The major search engines
[Google and MSN/Microsoft] recently decided to use one format for their
spiders. So its really just a search engine spider "director". Yahoo
recently may have added this style as well. Making the three addressable via
the same technique.
Though to make it work properly, all pages should have keywords and
description "tags" matching the page upon which they are placed. Also
valuable when pages are static, so the search engines know that the page is
"presentable" and where they should be placed in the search world [good,
bad, or ugly- haha].

As for what to do with it, get a Google account, go to:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login and use your account to add
your web site map. You'll have to add a verification tag to the main/index
page. Then you'll have a lot of information regarding your site once its
indexed by Google.
Before you add the site on Google, you'll add the sitemap.xml and
sitemap.xml.gz [with its related gz format file] to the base directory of
your site.

Information can be found he
http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/1.html

| | So you want me to check your web pages like I attempted for Brian?
Or
| just
| | some specific pages,,
| | How extensive do you want, general or the full monty?
| |
| | Links, presentation, content. Code isn't all that important right now.
| I'll
| | clean that up when I'm finished editing, if I feel the need. I've only
| | tested the pages themselves on IE7 at a fairly low resolution. Mostly,
| | feedback on content is what I'm looking for.

| Okay then, give me a day or two or maybe I can squeeze it in sometime
| today/early morning tomorrow....
| Need a Google site map too?

Default Unofficial Time Zones Update (Testers wanted)

That's quite a monumental .reg & amazing it works on so many OS. I
comfirm it appears to have the same data for my particular "Eastern Time
(US & Canada)", just as the one Colorado posted did-- & just as TZEdit
updated that zone for me.

But I'm not running your .reg or Colorado's until I discover what
happens on the Second Sunday of March from that TZEdit fix. THEN, maybe
I'll do it, just to update every other zone-- IF no one else of any OS
has blown up from it!

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
Should things get worse after this,

Default Unofficial Time Zones Update (Testers wanted)

I don't know for W9x but for NT/2000 you have to refresh the users Time
Zone information at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\TimeZoneInformation

with the new information contained in the updated database at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones

It can be done programatically or by changing the Time Zone settings to
a different zone then back to the proper zone. The information there is
the one that will make the time changes on the proper day and it was/is
entered/copied there at the time that you select(ed) the time zone, if
it's not refreshed the time change will not happen as expected.

Windows time zones

Windows stores time zone information in two locations in the registry.
The first location is the time zone database in the following registry
subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones

The time zone database contains the configuration data for all time
zones in Windows. Windows and other applications use the data to
calculate local times.

The second location for time zone information is the following registry
subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\TimeZoneInformation

Control sets in Windows store system configuration information such as
drivers and services. The TimeZoneInformation registry subkey in the
current control set contains the configuration data for the time zone
that Windows is currently using. Windows copies this information from
the time zone database when the time zone is selected.

I'll never know whether TZEdit does it, if I run your .reg first, is
all! I meant nothing else! But I see John John came up with a real issue
that I believe even Colorado's original .reg find didn't know. Those
TZEdit instructions of changing away/back to one's own time zone still
applies...

(g) Click Start, point to Settings, point to Control Panel,
and then double-click Date/Time.
(h) Click the Time Zone tab.
(i) Select a different time zone than the one you are set at,
and then click Apply.
(j) Click back to the one you were set at, and then click OK.
