I have tried HOT USB PLUG IN with the Exrenal Drive into the HOT OPERATING Me OP System and COLD BOOTs with the external USB drive connected and HOT. Same Failure. I Have Tried Front, Back and HUB USB Ports with the same Failure. I have WORKING Devices on my USBs : Priter, CTR HUB, Camera, Audio Input Device and Microphone !! ?? I have ALSO UPDATED ALL my Relevant Windows Me Software and All CRITICALL MICROSOFT UPDATES have been INSTALLED. The same problem with the External Drive occured before and after the UPDATE. My Machine is an HP 7855 pc Pavilion. Regards, Dr. H.Mak ==============SUPPORT FROM SIMPLETECH (Case# CS089528)=== Dear Tony : Tried Front Back and Hub USB Ports. Same Failure !! No Drives appear in "My Computer" Properties etc... other than my Floppy and Generic Hard Drive !! Right click on my computer and choose properties Then click on the device manager tab Now click the + next to disk drives. There you should see listed either Samsung or HDS7... Double Click on the device. Go to the Settings tab on the page that opens Now check the box for removable. There is no need to adjust any additional settings on this page. Click OK and then close the device manager. Upon closing the system should ask you to reboot. Allow the system to reboot and now the drive should appear properly under my computer as removable disk (? At this point the drive will need to be formatted if you have purchased a 160, 250 or 400GB drive, the 120GB drive is already prepared for use in Win98se and WinME. Please note that while the reformat will not hinder performance on WinXP or 2000, it will erase the drive. If the drive has been used previously on one of these systems and contains data, you will want to remove that data back to the XP or 2000 system before completing the rest of this process. Double click on the new drive and you should receive a message stating that the drive is not formatted and would you like to format it now. Choose yes and then click start. There is no need to change any of the default settings. The format process will then proceed. Time for this will vary depending on drive size, but should take no more than 15min to complete. At this point your drive will be ready for use. If you need further assistance or any of these steps do not appear as expected please feel free to call in. Any of the techs can help you or you can ask for me specifically. Tony Lanzi SimpleTech |
