Printer problem with 98
I have an odd printing problem. we have a machine at my
company running Windows 98 that after about 5 or 6 print jobs, the machine will not print to any printer. It simply says "Printer Not Available". When the machine is rebooted, it works fine. Under normal circumstances, this would not be a problem, but this machine is in a production environment and needs to be available at all times. There is no time for reboots with this machine. Unfortunately, I don't have any other iformation for this problem. Any clues to lead me in the right direction would be fantastic! thanks in advance! Jeremy Sheehan |

Printer problem with 98
This problem is generally associated with a network or running certain
utilities in the background. Make sure that you have installed the latest driver available from the manufacturer of your printer. If you are on a Novell Network, make sure that you have the latest Netware client for your workstations and that in Network properties, Novell NetWare Client, Protocol Preferences, make sure that the protocol order lists IPX as the first protocol. See these articles from Novell. http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/se...?/10052257.htm http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/se...i?/2949178.htm http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/se...?/10013528.htm If you are using Norton AntiVirus, check for updates. See this article from Symantec: Error: "Spool32 error" when printing to a network printer http://tinyurl.com/tey4 If you are using McAfee VirusScan, then see this article from McAfee. Spool32 Errors When Printing After Installing VirusScan on Windows 95, 98 and ME http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq.asp?doc...ryId=271&chat= If the printer is not a local printer, install the printer as a local printer. Once installed, go to the Printers folder, right-click the printer icon and select Printer Properties. Click the Details tab and click the Add Port button. Click to select Other and then click OK. In the Port Name dialog box, enter the path to the shared Network printer. It will take the form of \\server\SharedPrinterName. Print directly to the printer. In the printers folder, right-click the printer icon and select Printer Properties. Click the Details tab and click the Spool Settings button. Click to select Print directly to the printer.
