Microsoft window update error detecting my computer as mac..
(cross-post added to Win98 Networking)
"Sillyboyy" wrote in message ... Hmm,, still unable to solve it.. tried it le.. even nw go in the http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp still will detected me as mac.. Go to this diagnostic site http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.aspx and scroll to "Your browser sent the following headers:" specifically beside the "User-Agent:" label to find out what the User-Agent which you are transmitting is. Do you have a firewall installed? Perhaps it is corrupting the User-Agent string and making it different from javascript:navigator.userAgent Copy and paste that in your Address bar to compare it with what was received from the diagnostic site. A continual problem I have with Win9x is that there doesn't seem to be any way of doing a packet trace on it. Also I don't know if there is a utility such as FiddlerTool which is available for it. Otherwise, assuming your User-Agent is normal, the only diagnostic you will have is the View Source of the error message which will probably be too late to figure out why you are getting it. Hmm... actually, now I see that there is a script which gets called which could be where the problem is: redirect.js That file would be cached in the TIF if you are getting that far and you could drag it to a Notepad window to browse it. It's too complicated for me to understand without seeing the flow via a script debugger. (YMMV? w) Does Win9x at least support a script debugger? Perhaps you could try stepping through that script to see where it's going wrong. WU NG really isn't the best forum for this diagnosis. Cross-posting to Win98 Networking for convenience. Finally, you should be considering whether you *need* to use your Win98 system to do this download. E.g. if you have access to another OS perhaps it could do the downloads for the Win98 system and then transfer those files to it. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- "MowGreen [MVP]" wrote: It's a 'server side' issue. The redirect is inconsistent. With Internet Explorer CLOSED, open Internet Options in the Control Panel. Delete the Temporary Internet Files [ check the box for Offline Content, too ], clear the Cookies, and History. Then click the Windows Update link on the Start Menu or open IE and click Tools, Windows Update. If at first it does not take the system to WU, then close IE and go through the routine once more. Be persistent and the system will connect eventually. STRONGLY suggest that you use the Windows Update Catalog to download ALL available updates for Win 98se and then burn them to a CD so that they will be on hand when needed. They will not be available from MS forever. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp MowGreen [MVP 2003-2007] =============== *-343-* FDNY Never Forgotten =============== Sillyboyy wrote: I'm use win98se and tried use Microsoft window update but error.. the WU keep detected me as mac OS.. is there any solution?? i tried lot of solution but still can't solve the problem.. |
