Default windows media player

Being the comp expert I am, i deleted the windows media
player, that worked fine, from my comp. so i went to the
microsoft website and downloaded the media player version
7.1 for windows 98 (first edition). it works kinda... i
can play music but not video. when i made back up files of
the liscencing agreements and restored them to try and get
the video to play it said that the liscence wasn't there.
it continues to say "acquiring liscencse" when i try and
play a video. please send me a link to a download that
works, a program file that i can save to my comp, or
instuctions on how to correct the liscence thing, or
somthing please. your time is appreciated. jason
