Default KB911562 UPDATE

It appears that not all users are experiencing problems accessing Help &
Support after installing the KB911562 hotfix for MDAC 2.8.

I've carried out some further tests and can report that the problem
appears to be confined to those installing KB911562 over the original RTM
version of MDAC 2.8. Those installing KB911562 on systems running MDAC
2.8 SP1 are seeing no problems.

I would therefore recommend that users update their systems to using MDAC
2.8 SP1 before attempting to install the KB911562 hotfix. Incidentally
the 911562 patches for MDAC 2.8 and MDAC 2.8 SP1 differ so let Windows
Update handle the selection of the appropriate version.

MDAC 2.8 SP1 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Centre
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Default KB911562 UPDATE

Mike,
For those bodies, like myself, running XP SP2 Home, as I understand
what I have read, the MDAC 2.8 is a part of the SP2 upgrade.......is that
correct? I have installed the KB911562, along with the other updates
available at that time and noticed my desktop appearance settings changed,
but, reverted back after running CC.....I allowed it to remove some temp
files related to the updates. I know this is an inappropriate place for XP
related matters, but, with the volume of folks running XP that frequent this
NG, I thought it might help them. My apologies if I have overstepped my
bounds......it's just that the Me NG remains the best and most friendly
source of info, regardless of OS.

Default KB911562 UPDATE

H,

MDAC 2.8 SP1 is included as part of XP Home/Pro SP2. I am unaware of any
problems when installing 911562 on any version of XP.

As for referring to XP in this NG, well without comments relating to XP
this newsgroup would have been pretty well dead long ago or at least have
far less posts than it does.

Mike:
Thanks to your detailed description of the situation and with supply of the
appropriate link(s), I was able to correct mine. KB911652 is downloaded and
installed again, but this time around with "Help" and "Safe Mode" working as
nicely as before.
My hat off to you.

harry.

Alan,

Glad to have been of some help even if Microsoft are saying there isn't a
problem. Hopefully they will amend that statement on Tuesday based on the
feedback I and others have been sending them.
