Default Best Norton Antivirus for ME?

I have read in posts here a lot of distaste for Norton Antivirus with ME and
system problems that occur. Is there a version of NAV that will work OK?

Is it just automatic updates that cause a problem? Since I run LiveUpdate
manually, when NAV informs me that updates are available (I am on dial-up),
would this eliminate or at least minimize the problems?

I have a NAV 2003 disk ready to install, but I thought I better check with
the experts. I have been using NAV for years on two other computers, but
neither of these run ME (they are 98SE and XP).

The problem is not so much Norton as it is ME.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and get ME out of there ASAP.

There is no such thing as a version of Norton which will not kill ME (given
half a chance).

The best Norton/Symantec product for Win Me doesn't exist. All are to be
avoided at all costs. Personally I would extend that recommendation to
recommending that no user install any of Symantec's badly flawed products
on any operating system.

Now that is rubbish. Al Norton/Symantec products are seriously flawed and
best avoided regardless of the operating system in use,

Not that I disagree that it's time to move on from using Win Me but this
need only be done when the user buys or builds themselves a new PC,
otherwise there is no good reason why they shouldn't continue to use Win
Me with few if any problems provided that they take due care when on the
net and avoid all things Symantec.

Good advice. I've had ME for about 5 yrs and have not had any problems,
including using Norton until last year when I went to Avast. I just try to
be careful what I download, install, open up while keeping ZA and my spyware
programs up to date. BTW, I still use the Utilities portion of Norton
System Works (less AntiVirus) without any problems.

And yours is good advice as well and demonstrates how, with careful,
intelligent use and an awareness of possible problems, Win Me has in the
past and for some time yet is a stable and useful platform.

Couldn't have said it any better myself, Alias, thank you.
