Default Winmt32 has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL

I was trying to upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional and I know this is not a
recommended path but Win2000 is much more sorted. It goes well until it
starts checking the files for incompatibility and then I get the message
above and I have to abort the process. I have not yet found what Wnmt32 is
or what causes the problem. I am hosed because I recently installed
broadband and Outlook Express now crashes before connecting so no e-mail. If
someone has a cure for that, maybe I don't need Win 2000.

Thanks

How you connect to the net should make no difference to your mail and news
client, in this case Outlook Express. What is important though is to
ensure for each mail account that you don't specify a specific connection
such as say a dial-up connection (Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties |
Connection) as otherwise you may find that OE attempts to initiate a
dial-up connection when already connected via broadband.

Note though that if you have changed ISP that whilst you should still be
able to collect mail from your old ISP's mail server you probably won't be
able to send mail via the old ISP and have to use your new ISPs smtp
server.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the interest but it is not trying to dial up. I
actually downloaded 3 e-mails and then it fell over and has never worked
since. I was getting actual crashing with error messages to do with some
Sync or something but now it has stopped altogether so I can't make a note of
the messages. ISP is the same and all settings are the same as the ones on
two laptops that are running XP with no problems.
