Internet connection freezes up for 30-40 seconds then resumes.

I use internet explorer 6 and I have a Verizon DSL.
Recently I started to experience the following trouble:
internet connection freezes up for about 30-40 seconds and
I am unable to access any websites, after that it resumes
and I am able to go anywhere like nothing happened. I have
tried everything but nothing seems to work.

Please help!!!!

This type of problem is often the result of having a 'lost' Network Place -
one that no longer exists. Look in your Network Places, and check out any
entries there to see if there are any dead links.
