Default IE6 Cd won't install

I have repeatedly tried to upgrade to IE 6 via MS website
and During the installation process we got the following
errors: A previous installation has pending work requiring
a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete
that installation before running internet explorer setup.
Setup will now close."
So I ordered the CD and the same thing happened. What's
a girl to do?

Look in the \windows directory for WININIT.INI and see if it has any pending
install programs. If it has and one is IE try renaming WININIT.INI to
WININIT.OLD or similar and run setup again.

dmharris,

Did you temporarily disable your antivirus program prior to
attempting the installation ? If you did and the same issue arose,
try this :

Create a folder in My Documents and name it IEBak. Now navigate to
Progam Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information and move all of
the files in that folder to IEBak. With your antivirus program temp
disabled try installing from the CD again.
IF IE installs, delete the entire IEBak folder.
IF IE does not install, move all of the files from IEBak back to
Progam Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information .

You could also copy the contents of the IE CD to the Hard Drive,
boot to Safe Mode, and run ie6setup.exe from there :
