Help with logo.sys
Best thing to do is killfile the coderipper. He will drone on an on over
nothing and really is quite clueless about WinME, among his many other failings. He hangs out in the virus source code and hacker groups.....that oughta tell you what kind of person you are dealing with. And he is considered a fool in most news groups. IOW, GET LOST, DIMBULB.....YOU ARE NOT WANTED HERE!! Is that clear enough???? Heather "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... "Mike M" wrote in message ... The name of the file would have been logo.sys and the location the root of C:\. No other name or location works. I beg to differ; because I have put a sulogo.sys into the windowsME instaliation I used for a short time, and it does work as the start up screen. Maybe you are talking about a Win9x install? I remember it quite well; because at the time I was a little miffed that I could not use all the logo.sys files I had accumilated from win95-win98SE in my WindowsME machine. It took me quite some searching to find out that Microsoft had changed it for WinME to sulogo.sys. One of the first things I tried was to do a system file search for logo.sys, and when I didn't find it I figured they had done the same as in Win98SE and hidden it inside a .dll and that simply putting a logo.sys into the proper folder would overide the default and then removing it would allow it to resume to the default logo.sys I was also around that same time however playing about with a free copy of Win2K I had received at the Feb17th launch of Win2K in Columbus, Ohio in Feburary 2000, the same one at which I got a low of SWAG (Software and Gifts) including a Win2K T-Shirt shrink wrapped to look like a flying window logo, which I still have unopened. Microsoft got even more shall I say sneeky with WinXP by hiding the start up screen inside ntoskrnl.exe and you need to use a resorce editor (I reommend res hacker because it is not only an adaquate one but free) to change it. As I said earler I can only guess you are talking about a Win9x machine and logo.sys; because any compent MVP or better yet a MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional - because one has to test to be a MCP; but a MVP is just an elected cudos type of honor) will tell you the same info I have about sulogo.sys and WinME. Figgs,
The guy's clearly posting way beyond his competence and from what I have seen this is typical of most if not all of his postings. -- Mike Heather wrote: Best thing to do is killfile the coderipper. In fact if both sulogo.sys and logo.sys are present in the root c:\ the sulogo.sys will show up instead of logo.sys. If you don't agree let me know; because I would sure like to see if people here are fair and judge only upon the information given instead of relying on what trolls have brought in from another group. It would also be interesting to see if admitted virus authors and such are more welcome then someone that only wishes to help. -- VIA TITS (Teenager In Tennis Shoes)proxy of Sugien /} @###{ ]:::::ino-Soft Softwa::::: \} This post brought to you by Sneaker Net floppyware |

Help with logo.sys
"Mike M" wrote in message ... You may beg to differ and in this case proves you clearly know little or nothing about the subject. You are posting to a Win Me NGs and your post is nothing short of drivel, something which I understand you are well They you only understand what bias people have to say instead of relying on what you yourself have seen. accustomed to posting. The Win Me default splash screen is part of io.sys I agree and if a user wishes to have a custom splash then this has to be called logo.sys and placed in the root of C:\. To state otherwise shows you simply don't have a clue and would do better posting your trash elsewhere. That is all well and good, and I have quite more of a clue then some would care to admit, however you can also use sulogo.sys and it will supersede your logo.sys. If you don't believe me make two different start up screens name one sulogo.sys and one logo.sys place them both in root C:\ and then see which one shows up. Well that is if you wish to find out for your self, instead of relying on what you have been told. Personally no matter what I am told about a technical problem I still verify what I have been told; but maybe that is just me. -- VIA TITS (Teenager In Tennis Shoes)proxy of Sugien /} @###{ ]:::::ino-Soft Softwa::::: \} This post brought to you by Sneaker Net floppyware |

The best way to be privy to what the next next attacking vector or method is to be accepted in those groups where the people that try and come up with such hang out. you what kind of person you are dealing with. And he is considered a fool in most news groups. in two news groups which I chose to have a little fun and cultivated that title I may be thought that; but what I am thought to be and what I actually am are quite two different things. IOW, GET LOST, DIMBULB.....YOU ARE NOT WANTED HERE!! Is that clear enough???? Since when do YOU OWN this group?? Maybe others here as elsewhere's where my technical expertise will judge me by my posts instead of some half baked idea brought over from a group that was originally chartered BY virus writers as a place to exchange new ideas and methods of WRITING VIRUS!. Maybe not everyone is a close minded as you or influenced by 1 a know troll (Laura), and 2. An admitted Virus researcher (4Q although he calls his little ditties artificial life) not anti-virus researcher but well let him explain; but as in those groups known virus writers and such seem to be more welcome then someone that only ever wanted to help. -- VIA TITS (Teenager In Tennis Shoes)proxy of Sugien /} @###{ ]:::::ino-Soft Softwa::::: \} This post brought to you by Sneaker Net floppyware |

Help with logo.sys
Incorrect.
I found no way sulogo.sys would be used, whether logo.sys was there or not. 1. I booted Win ME with no sulogo.sys or logo.sys The default screen came up. 2. I put sulogo.sys (turned upside down to be obvious) It was not used. 3. I renamed sulogo.sys to logo.sys (just to check I had modified it correctly) It was now used. 4. I put in both a modifed sulogo.sys and a modifed logo.sys Logo.sys was used. ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On Thu, 10 Nov 2005 18:07:04 -0500, "Sugien" wrote: I beg to differ; because I have put a sulogo.sys into the windowsME instaliation I used for a short time, and it does work as the start up screen. Help with logo.sys
Right. Post back if you have any success! I'd be fascinated to know, but
have only seen it mentioned with ref British. Otherwise it is generally quicker in ME than, eg 98se. I don't recall previously noticing this, eg messing about with my own UK settings, but it's the length of time the splash was showing alerted me that someone else's machine was not set up for the UK. I corrected it with the correct international settings and the machine reverted to our standard approx. half-second display. iow the relative length *depending on International settings used* appears to be set in IO.SYS. Good luck! Shane "Leysan" wrote in message ... Thanks Shane, that is what I was afraid of. BTW I have Canadian settings. Might just try US settings & see what happens. "Shane" wrote in message ... The time the bootup logo is displayed is hard-wired. The short display is the consequence of having British settings. Not sure why this is so in ME, but it is. On British versions it just flashes by. You can make it last longer by setting Windows up (in MSConfig/International) as, eg, American, but better to have a fully-working keyboard than a pretty bootup splash. Shane "Leysan" wrote in message ... I installed a custom logo.sys file & it works ok...but it flashes by in about 3 seconds. Barely enough time to view it. Is there a way to increase the time it is displayed? Thanks for your help. |

Help with logo.sys
Shane,
AFAIK the problem exists if the user chooses to use any code pages other than the default as the splash goes when a non default code page is loaded. If the OP is using a French Canadian keyboard that would cause the problem. -- Mike Shane wrote: Right. Post back if you have any success!
