Default Pioneer DVD / CD Writer (A08XL) being identified as CD ROM

Anyone-

I have installed a new internal Pioneer DVD / CD Writer (Model A08XL) that
reads and writes to a wide variety of different media. I installed it in a
Dell Dimension 8100 running Windows ME at 1.4 megahertz with approximately
384 MB of RAM and 20 GB free disk space.

The problem I am having is that Windows seems to only recognize it as a
CD-ROM / DVD-ROM drive and does not allow me to write to it at all. I have
checked into drivers because it come with none. None appear to be available
as its taken care of by Windows.

Any thoughts on what to do? The firmware for the drive is already updated.
Further, I set it up as cable select which is the appropriate setting and
its the second device on an IDE cable. The first device is a CD / DVD ROM
drive. I'm wondering if that is the problem.

Windows 98/Me will always see a CD/RW or DVD/RW drive as a simple CDROM or
DVDROM drive. They have no internal support for burning discs. You need to
install a burning program to burn discs.

Thanks for the advice, it solved the problem completely. I entered into the
process assuming the drive would function similar to my zip drive under
Windows ME. Using the software route to write the discs fixed it. I have
some problems now with the software that was bundled with the drive but that
is no problem to deal with.

Thanks.
