Default Performing Minimal Reboot

After restarting with a Startup Disk in the floppy A drive, I select=20
"Minimal Reboot" - I then get the A:\ prompt. I need to get to the C=20
drive and enter "C:" When I enter "C:" at the A:| prompt I get =
"invalid=20
drive specification" error. I've tried entering "C\:" and can't get to =
the C=20
drive to rename the files. Any help would be appreciated.

Presumably your C: drive works OK in WinMe? If so, do you have a disk
'Overlay' installed on it.

thanx for the response - yes the C: drive works fine when booting up=20
from the hard drive. Read the the Knowledge Base article which states I =

must first load the drive overlay program then boot from the floppy. =20
Seems strange that the 'Create Disk' application which I used to create=20
the floppy disk in the first place didn't know that the drive overlay=20
program was needed before booting from the floppy disk it was=20
creating. My issue now is that I have no documentation for the hard=20
disk nor do I have information how to boot from a floppy and=20
access this particular hard disk.

did some more research - my C likley has overlay softare as it is FAT32=20
- the startup disc created from the WinMe obviously does not have=20
overlay software - so now what's the next step? I need to access C.

Not really, WinMe, having been installed is 'fooled' by the overlay into
thinking all is well and is only concerned about creating the Startup disk.
If it sees a floppy in the A : drive, it will just continue as instructed
and create the disk. It's only when the boot disk (now running in DOS)
looks back at the C: drive, does it realize that the C; drive doesn't 'look'
right. But all this would have been explained in the Overlay documentation -
if only you had it g

Overlay is a 'fix' introduced by disk manufacturers to allow 'larger drives
than the BIOS has been designed to accept' to work with certain 'older'
motherboards.

As MS imply in their KB article, your *only* course of action is to go to
the HD manufacturers web site and look for their overlay utility information
and support. There are no 'tools' in WinMe or DOS to overcome it.

BTW - although I can 'understand' what you mean by your assertion "my C
likely has overlay software as it is FAT32 - the startup disc created from
the WinMe obviously does not have overlay software" it is technically
inaccurate and not the issue here.

HTH and good luck
